Where multiple interpretations of canon are available, are we required to use certain versions, or is it up to the players, or can all be used individually (doubtful but I've seen it done)? For example, my specific case: [Cheshire] or [Cheshire]? For others: kid or grown Kiara? Or even Simba for that matter, given it is AU and all. Is Will Turner a lowly apprentice or Davey Jones's heir? A particularly big one- is Prince Adam still a Beast or human? And so-on.

You're more than welcome to interpret your character in any way you wish to. So, let's say you're Hercules--just for an example--you could have the choice to portray young Hercules, older Hercules, or even post-film Hercules. Really, depending on the timeline of the storyline--so long as it sticks to the plot--you can portray any version you would like.
Let's say you wanted to do something during the movie. Meg may not have teamed up with Hades. Therefore, not ever meeting Hercules. Which, in turn, would result in Hades never meeting his demise because Hercules saved Meg from Hades.
Does that make sense? I'm kind of tired, so my apologies if it doesn't.
